Credit Card Informational Article

Overview

This page covers information about Credit Card usage with both FasCard and LaundryCard.

General Information

LaundryCard and FasCard support a wide variety of different credit card payment methods from EMV Chip, to contactless (NFC) such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, or traditional MagStripe. Each payment method has different requirements when it comes to what hardware is used, what processors need to be involved, and what type of CCI system you have installed.

If you are interested in accepting Credit Cards in your store, call our support line (630) 930-5115 extension 2 for more information.

Terminology

NFC (Contactless Payments): Stands for Near-field Communication. This is your Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung/Android Pay, etc.

  • Supported on the F2 readers (restrictions apply), soon to be F3 readers, VP3300 EMV Bezel, and Ingenico EMV bezel devices.

  • Requires WorldNet gateway for NFC, and a compatible payment processor

VAR/Tear Sheet: This is a document provided by the merchant/payment processor to be used on the gateway processor's boarding dashboard.

  • Example: We obtain a First Data VAR sheet from Paystri or other company, and use that information to setup an account on WorldNet or Authorize.Net.

  • Not to be confused with the "VAR" sheet that Paystri sends us for Datacap or Pineapple setups, where we do not setup the account on the gateway.

Payment (Merchant) Processor: This is the company responsible for receiving information from the Gateway Processor, and processes the payments for the merchant. They are also the ones who will deposit credit card transactions to the merchant's bank account.

  • Example: Paystri, Elavon, Heartland, Chase Paymentech

Gateway Processor: This is the company responsible for integrating with CCI and passing along encrypted credit card transactional information to the payment processor.

  • Example: WorldNet, Authorize.Net, Pineapple, Datacap, Bridgepay

Payment Platform: This is the company in which payment processors use to generate their VAR sheets. They have to use a platform to host/aid in payment processing.

  • Oftentimes, the VAR sheet will come formatted with the platform's name rather than the payment processor's name. Example: Paystri may be the processor, but First Data is the platform, and the VAR is formatted to look like it came from First Data. No indication it came from Paystri on the VAR itself.

  • Example: First Data, TSYS

Batch: This is a method by which FasCard bundles a full day's worth of transactions together to reduce our merchant's fees from different Gateway Processors and Payment (Merchant) Processors. This works by sending a single batch of many transactions over to the Gateway Processor at the end of the day (11:50 PM Local Time) to get processed rather than sending each transaction individually as it happens.

  • Gateway and Payment Processors may not be aware we do it this way, so oftentimes from their point of view these appear no different than any singular transaction that passes through. This will also result in Gateway and Payment Processors telling CCI customers that they are getting charged for "every swipe" when in actuality that is not happening. It only appears that way because they don't see the pre-authorization logic or batch logic we implemented to prevent "per swipe" fees and such.

Gateway Processor

A payment gateway / gateway processor encrypts sensitive credit card details, ensuring that information is passed securely from the customer to the acquiring bank via the merchant. Not all gateway processors support both LaundryCard and FasCard, and not all gateway processors support all payment methods CCI offers.

Datacap & Pineapple

The pricing of Datacap & Pineapple varies. The required payment processor Paystri, who is also our preferred payment processor, sets the pricing for these gateways. There is no set price that CCI can provide as Paystri's price can depend on location, laundromat size, number of laundromat locations, etc.

EMV Gateway Processor Compatibility

Not all gateway processors we support, also support every payment method that CCI offers. Refer to the table below to see which payment methods your gateway processor supports. If you would like to support more payment methods than what your gateway is compatible with, you must go through a migration process with CCI. Call our support line (630) 930-5115 extension 2 or email support@laundrycard.com to begin that process.
